Amino Acid

Amino acid is the most elemental form of protein. The enzyme proteases in our body is responsible for breakdown protein from food to its most elemental form. Our cells only recognize the amino acids as a form of food and energy. The absorption of amino acids starts at the small intestine.

 

There are essential and non-essential amino acids. Non-essential amino acids are those amino acids that can be produced by our own body. While essential amino acids are those that need to be taken from food.

Lack of amino acid in the body can happen due to poor enzyme function, to cleave the protein and at the same time due to poor absorption in the gut. Supplementing amino acids is another form to achieve a good source of building blocks for the body.
